Northwest Teaching for Social Justice Conference

Dear Portland Area Rethinking Schools friends,

For those of you who attended last year's Northwest Teaching for Social Justice conference in Seattle, you know that it was a great opportunity to share resources, teaching strategies, and gather inspiration. The 2nd annual conference promises more of the same -- and it's closer to Portland, in Olympia. Ira Shor is keynoting. Ira has written some of the most influential books on social justice teaching, including the classic, "Critical Teaching and Everyday Life," and collaborated with Paulo Freire on the outstanding "talking book," "A Pedagogy for Liberation."

The conference is Saturday, Oct. 3. Check out www.nwtsj.org for details.

In the meantime, please consider submitting a workshop proposal. See attached. These are due by June 30. Sorry for the quick turnaround. Please contact me, if you have any questions: bbpdx@aol.com.

The Northwest Teaching for Social Justice conference is co-sponsored by Olympia Educators for Social Justice, Puget Sound Rethinking Schools (Seattle), Coalition X (Tacoma), Portland Area Rethinking Schools, and Rethinking Schools magazine.

Best,

Bill Bigelow
