National Association for Multicultural Education - Oregon Chapter Conference, May 1

Dear Portland Area Rethinking Schools friends,

Please consider attending the statewide conference of the Oregon chapter of NAME, the National Association for Multicultural Education. The conference's theme this year is "Lies and Truths in Our History: Teaching what happened -- and what we can do about it now." Keynote speaker will be Jim Loewen, author of the bestselling "Lies My Teacher Told Me," a critique of some of the country's main U.S. History textbooks. Portland Area Rethinking Schools is a co-sponsor, and Rethinking Schools books will be available.

When: Friday, May 1, 8:30-4:30
Where: Western Oregon University, Monmouth, Oregon

Last year's conference at Oregon State University was wonderful -- a great chance for teachers, prospective teachers, and teacher educators to come together to share thoughts on critical teaching for social equality.
